Vote for the UK Gathering Location & Group Name

Quick post this time folks….

Video number two is out. This one briefly discusses the 3 locations I’ve shortlisted for the next UK Gathering ‘Dan Sath’. Click on the gormless face below to hear me discuss the 3 options.

I’ve provided links to the websites for the 3 options in the Youtube video description to help you make your choice.

Once you’ve watched the video, please click on the link below and vote for the location that appeals to you most of all. Please vote within the next 2-3 days as I’ll need to book and pay a deposit to hold the space.

Just to clarify, anyone that’s interested in coming along has the right to vote in my opinion. Even if you’re not sure if you could make it or not. Your opinion means a lot!

Votes will close on Sunday evening

I’ve also put in an additional survey question for you to decide the name of our group for these gatherings. There are plenty to choose from.

I will go with the most popular option for both the location and the name.

    Hi Huw,

I have voted but unfortunately doubt I'd be able to attend this one so I've ranked them on which option I thought was best as if I were attending

For future spring / summer gatherings the camping/chalets option is definitely one worth considering for us frugal minded folks. The tricky bit will be finding a hirable indoor/outdoor venue alongside it I suspect. I may do a bit of research to see what might be available for future Northern gatherings and see what comes up – will let you know if I find any good options along these lines.

    Hi Mike,

I appreciate that Mike. I've now added a paragraph above encouraging people to do the same. I'd prefer to get a larger pool of opinions from people that 'might' not be there than a smaller pool of opinions from the few that can commit right now. Thank you for the idea!

I'm really interested to see where people lie on this scale. I'm slap bang in the middle personally. I like the idea of having our 'own place', free from others with plenty of space for break out rooms and space for games. There's a cost associated to this, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how affordable it is.

I also treat these gatherings as 'holidays', as I don't tend to go anywhere in the year – therefore I'm more willing to spend a little extra to get some nicer facilities and little extra's. But that's just me! We're all coming from this at a different angle, and I hope this survey will allow the group an opportunity to share their opinion.

We're likely to venture up north at least once next year, and I'll certainly take you up on that offer of help. I'm keen to establish what the group are looking for in the next Gathering, and then assess how successful it turns out….or not before I start looking for venues.

Thanks again for your support and encouragement on this Mike, I really appreciate it!

I definitely want to make this one Huw so I've stuck my oar in and voted.

I've plumped for Pine Tree as number 1 but it depends on how many people want to go. How many turned up for the last one down South? My concern with the fancy option is that you need 30 odd to attend to get the price down to reasonable levels.

    Thanks for the vote FIbrarian!

I hope you can make it too.

Pine Tree has my vote too, as it covers all of 'my' criteria well, but you're right with its limitation being it's size. We had 15 people attend, but only 10 people 'stopped over', as some were local to the area.

I'm not sure how many will attend the Southern one, or how many would be willing to stop over. I'm hoping this survey will help somewhat with that.

If Pine Tree comes out on top and there are 25 people interested in stopping over, we'll just have to go on first come first served for deposits, and the rest can find accommodation nearby.

You're right with the fancy one, if the numbers end up low, it will become substantial. I was just surprised that we could stop in a location like that, just us, for that price! I spent £72 for 2 nights in York, and we had to walk 1.5 miles to get into York to meet everyone.

    Bring on the results!

    Hey Huw,

Thanks so much for all the research you've put into this. The videos are great and all of the options look great.

Do we have a target weekend yet? October is starting to fill up for me.

    Thank you Emma!

    No problem at all.

Not yet. I need to nail down the location, then I can check its availability, and then I can book it. I'll need to know numbers too as they're require significant deposits – approx £500.

My plan is to get everyone's thoughts together by this weekend. Then next week I can review dates, group numbers and book the thing. I've a bit of work cut out, but we'll get there!

Hi Huw, have also voted, but I would need to know the date – I am only available wkends of 2nd and 16th in October.

I hope these videos become a regular feature, I have often thought about doing a podcast as there aren't really any decent UK ones about FIRE/frugalism/good budgeting etc. but I'm seriously lacking in time until I go on maternity leave… so I hope your videos will fill that gap to some extent!

    Hi Huw,

Thanks for all your hard work on this and good luck with your YouTube channel. 🙂

Unfortunately I won't be able to come in October but I will be looking out for how it all went and how future events develop. I'm a little constrained by the fact that I don't drive so can't easily get to anything other than town/city locations and am one of those people who would only ever want to pop in for a few hours, have a drink and say "hello" to folks rather than make a weekend of it, so a mix of types of meetup would be good once the group gets really established.

I'll take a look at the names and post my vote on that.

    Hi Huw
Great second vlog. I have voted (both location and name) but it looks like I'm unlikely to be able to make this one. Thanks for your efforts in checking out those locations. Like Cerridwen, I look forward to reading how it all goes.

    Thanks M.

Great news, you can make the date!

I hope to keep these videos coming out on a regular basis. I prefer talking to writing, but I plan on keeping both going. I like the visual connection you get with Youtube. I'm glad you like it!

    Hi Ceridwen,

    M pleasure!

Not to worry, I understand. I plan on having plenty of others so don't worry. We'll have to get a lift share option going too to help you out. 🙂

    Thank you for voting!

My pleasure. I hope you're able to make future one's, and I'll do my best to represent the Gathering by my writing and video.
