Dividend Income – March 2015

plan on recording my monthly dividend payments on this blog for you all to see. I earned £9.88 in the whole of 2013, £590.33 in 2014, and I have a goal to earn £2,000 in Dividends for 2015. This post will collate all of the dividends I’ve received this month and how I’m tracking against my Dividend Goals. I will reveal which companies have paid, and how much they’ve contributed.

I have two accounts where I’m currently earning Dividends from – I have a NISA account with H&L, and a taxable share account with iWeb.

March Dividend Payments:
NISA
BHP Billiton £30.67
BP £16.07
Catlin Group £43.78
Newton Asian Income Fund £3.43
Royal Dutch Shell B £24.02
SSE £16.76
Unilever £10.67
Loyalty Bonus £0.07
Total £145.47
Taxable Account
BHP Billiton £26.89
Total £26.89
Combined Total £172.36

March’s dividends were the highest I’ve ever received! – £172.36. My biggest payout previous to this month was back in September 2014 where I received £124.19.

Over the course of 2014, my dividends averaged £49.19 per month. I received a dividend payment in every month last year, so I can now make a Year-on-Year comparison for every month. In March last year I received £5.64. This represents a 2,956% increase Year on Year. I mentioned last month that these ridiculous % increases are due to continue into April too.

In order to be on track with my 2015 Dividend Income Goal, I need to bring in £167 per month. My dividend income is very sporadic so I’m not expecting to hit that amount every month, but it’s useful to know what I need as a guide.

Dividends – 2015
January £83.47
February £56.22
March £172.36
April
May
June
July
August
September
October
November
December
2015 Total £312.05
2015 Average £104.02

My monthly average is now at £104.02 after 3 months. My average last month was £69.85, so it’s heading in the right direction, but I still have some work to do. I’m due to have a drop in April, but May and June should be beastly payouts! I’m relying on these big payouts to boost my average closer to the £167 Target.

How was March for you? How are you getting on with your targets now we’ve past the first Quarter?

Congratulations on a record month. It is nice to see the dividends coming in each month and even better when they eclipse the same month from a year ago.

My income for March was within a £ of yours and also like you my April income is due to drop before a stellar May which sees two companies paying special dividends.

Well done, Huw! A nice total. My March was pretty strong but unlike you and Richard the next two months should be stronger. This month we had a lot of overlap though. Everyone on my payout list features on yours!

Your monthly average is spectacular so far. Mine is sitting around about where yours was last year!

    Keep up the good work!

Great month, I've had also a great month, keep the snowball rolling.

  • Congratulations on a personal best month and you'll really start to pick up steam throughout this year. It's amazing how encouraging those dividend payments can be.

This is great news, Huw. Such a solid month. You've sure come a long way since I first started following your progress and I can't wait to watch you set even more records 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Fantastic month, way to go Huw! You are so driven, I am sure you'll smash all the goals you set. March is one of our worst months, and April is our second worst, so you'll smash ours too!

    Hello Huw,

Man, that's amazing! Huge increase in dividends month after month, looking forward to see how much you get in your bestly months. As for me, I've finally received my first dividends – just over £30 in March, although I will receive none next month due to most of my companies paying out this quarter… Still on track for my 2015 goal though 🙂

Thanks for sharing and keep up the great progress!

  • Congratulations. It is incredibly satisfying to see income increasing at such a rate year on year.

    Hi Richard,

I couldn't agree more. I always enjoy adding up my monthly dividends, and I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing month to month and year on year increases.

There are fluctuations between everyone's portfolios, but there seems to be a fair amount of consistency between people doing DGI. It's no surprise as we share a lot of the same companies! I'm looking forward to receiving the payouts in May/June, and seeing how everyone else gets on. It's usually a great time of year for UK investors.

    Cheers

    Hi DL,

Thank you very much. I have to confess to being equally excited this time last year when I received £5 in dividends. Increases in general are exciting, but I don't necessarily feel even more excited than I did last year. I suppose what I'm saying is we're both in great positions right now. Watching the increases and working towards FI. Congratulations on your own progress. Go get that Target!

    Cheers

    Hi DD,

Thank you very much. Ha ha. As I said above, among the UK DGI's we'll experience a lot of highs and lows together. Congratulations my friend.

That's nice of you to say, but the exciting news is you'll be on my average before you know it. Just like I've experienced in the last 12 months. The whole process is exciting, and I believe that feeling won't stop.

Keep up the good work too. Thanks for stopping by and offering support. It's much appreciated!

    Thanks M!

I'm so pleased how all of this has gone in the last 12 months. It just makes me think what'll be possible in 2-5 years, and then 10-20 years!

I hope you're in line to receive some nice payouts for May and June! I passed on your regards, thank you very much. She wishes you all the best in return!

Thanks, I do hope I will be around your average sometime soon. I suspect my pace of growth will slow towards the tail end of the year so I am trying to give it as much as a prod as possible early in the year! It is going well so far!

Yes, inevitably UK DGI's have a significant amount of overlap with one another. What percentage of your portfolio do you have in FTSE250 companies? Is it quite high? Mine is about 25% of my entire portfolio.

My pleasure! I enjoy reading you posts and updates! Good for a little inspiration!

    Hi DD,

You'll get there before you know it. I've read your Blog and it looks like you're taking the right steps, it's just a matter of time now.

You can see from my current portfolio that almost all of it is FTSE 250 or at least all share. I have a couple of income funds and shares and that's it. I have a very small amount in P2P lending and cash. As I get older and closer to FI I'll be investing more in index funds, and ETF's.

Thanks again for the kind words. It's great to hear that others find it useful!

    Huw
